Technology roadmap
The automotive industry invests a lot in research and development and the race is even stronger for bringing new technology to the market. In parallel there is an efficiency race, where many of the OEMs invest further in virtual development and more advanced validation methods. More output for less money.
Our customer face the same challenges as Semcon – how can they bring products to the market that will interest the customers? What are the unique selling points? We have seen a growing number of environmental friendly vehicles, with low C02 emissions, decreased weight and new materials and concept cars showing more of the future thinking.
At the auto shows this year, almost every OEM shows smaller cars, electric cars, hybrids and the muscle cars are put in the second show line. It is not only environment friendliness that attracts the public, more individual styling and design, the driver interaction with the car – HMI and all the new connectivity and multimedia are hot topics.
The same goes for the commercial vehicles; in general they have the same concern but also major pressure to meet the future emission legislations. This development drive the need for lighter truck and bus cabins, electrification and hybrid drivetrains, new type of fuels, but also here the HMI and connectivity are important but more related to efficient usage and productivity.
Our roadmap

Our roadmap to be a competitive engineering partner contains several elements. Apart from our continuous focus on delivery of services and projects with quality and effectiveness, we have decided on strategic technical areas. The selected areas are important areas for present and future vehicles up to 2030 and beyond.
- Strategic technical focus areas
- Research
- Innovations and patents
An important part of our competence build is to invest in research projects and to be part of the research arena in each country where we are represented. As a consequence of our strive for technology, we also have an IPR portfolio. For each IPR we build a separate business plan
Our main strategic technical focus areas within the automotive industry
SAFE - crashworthiness, future passive and active safety, where active safety will become increasingly important.
LEAN- reduced emissions, environmentally friendly powertrains, recycling and more. We have selected to focus on the electric / hybrid drivetrains.
LIGHT - lightweight, new materials, composites, combining materials and new assembly methods
SMART - vehicles of the future will be filled with smart systems, and connected to different networks.
The technologies and methods in these areas also apply to products other than vehicles and we can use the same competences towards railway, wind power industry, etc.
