Case: Measurement system for nuclear power plant

ComTest® is used as a measurement system at Vattenfall’s nuclear power plant in Forsmark. An important part of the system is the monitoring of the electric actuators in the many valves that regulate the flow of steam in the turbines. The measurement signals are continually stored at 100 Hz, a frequency that produces a high resolution and reveals any possible valve malfunctions. If a malfunction occurs anywhere in the process, ComTest® helps to gather measurement data so that the entire chain of events can be reproduced and analyzed for the periods before, during and after the malfunction. Trigger conditions in ComTest® determine what is to be considered as an abnormal event. The goal is naturally to learn from all events that do not fall within the framework of what is classified as normal, and consequently, to improve safety. The system is very large with over 2,000 measurement points and these are rigidly synchronized for simultaneous measurement.
