Virtual service and repair methods for Jaguar Land Rover

Semcon utilises its own processes and its proprietary tool Illuminator for developing service and repair methods for Jaguar Land Rover based on input data from CAD models.

Challenge
All vehicles require regular maintenance and occasional repairs. For this to be done in the most efficient and effective way, service and repair methods as well as their corresponding standard times are required.

Solution
Semcon supports Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) with the development, documentation and distribution of such methods for all of its models, as part of a managed services partnership. Semcon utilises its own processes for the development of service and repair methods and times. Employing Semcon's proprietary tool Illuminator, CAD models are used to develop repair methods and times virtually.

Result

  • Lower cost; the cost attached to expensive pre-production vehicles is no longer a factor. 
  • Improved quality; the CAD data used to develop methods and times is updated at more regular intervals than the various pre-production vehicle build phases. 
  • Re-use; a number of repair methods and times developed in the virtual world can be re-used on other vehicles, saving additional cost and time.
  • Location; using CAD data means that the repair methods and times engineer can be located remotely from customer if required. This allows Semcon to utilise cost-effective back-office operations. For JLR, Semcon uses resource in Kineton, UK and in Budapest, Hungary.

Illuminator is Semcon Informatic’s proprietary visualisation tool. It can handle a multitude of CAD formats as input data, and use this input for creation of repair methods or illustrations.
